Posted by: admin on 20th February 2008

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. What is Cystitis?

Cystitis means inflammation of the bladder. It is usually caused by a urine infection. Typical symptoms are pain when you pass urine and passing urine frequently. You may also have pain in your lower abdomen, blood in your urine and fever (high temperature).

If you’ve suffered the excruciating pain of cystitis you’ll know it’s a condition which needs prompt treatment. In fact, it’s estimated that one in three women will suffer from cystitis at some stage in their life, the condition being most prevalent in women between the ages 25 and 54.

What causes it?

It’s bacterial infection, where bacteria normally found in the rectum, make their way into the bladder via the urethra-the tube that leads to the bladder. Some bacteria lie around your anus (back passage) after you pass a stool (faeces). These bacteria can sometimes travel to your urethra and into your bladder. Some bacteria thrive in urine and multiply quickly to cause cystitis. A more serious kidney infection can develop if the condition is left untreated.
